October 13th was one of the most emotional and memorable days for my country. In fact, personally, I can’t remember the last time Sky news had a positive story with 24 hours coverage and that in itself was a good thing :). I was delivering a Training session when at the break I came across the news that showed the precious moment when the first Chilean miner emerged out of the Fenix capsule to be greeted with cheerful joy. The moment I got home I was glued until the last miner got out and everytime the emotion and joy was the same.

As a Chilean, the magnitude of this rescue touched me really deep in so many levels. First of all, listening to our national anthom being played and looking at our beautiful tri-colour flag reconnected me with the patriotism and love I deeply feel for my country and its people.

Secondly, the whole rescue effort reminded me of the important values we shared as a nation-solidarity, strength of character and unity to overcome whatever life throw at us ( we only have to remember the devastating earthquake we had just months ago).Also, the value of sense of humour and keeping the spirits high which was kept alive through the 70 days and that is so typical of us chileans ! 

Thirdly, the inmense respect I have for the professionalism and capability of the Chilean government and the skills and organization of the whole rescue team that delivered a flawless operation with the added pressure of the whole world looking at them following every move. 

 Above all, the most important thing for me was watching every miner being greeted by a loved one with a huge hug and kiss. This reminded me of the power that holding and hugging  your loved ones has in all of us and how that connects us to pure humanity in the most beautiful and inspiring way. This morning one of the newspaper headings was THEY CHEERED, THEY HUGGED AND STILL THE RESCUE WENT ON. And I think that is a reflection of all we do. We always deliver keeping the spirits high with passion and emotion. Perhaps there is no better words to describe the whole success than the words of our President, Mr Sebastian Pinera, ‘WE DID IT THE CHILEAN WAY , AND WE DID IT WELL’.
